Federal funding for children’s programs has taken a disproportionately big hit as lawmakers have grappled with tight budgets, a new First Focus report finds. Congress has cut overall spending by 4 percent since 2011, but spending on children dropped by 9 percent during those years, the report says. Some areas that saw cuts: Funding for child abuse and neglect prevention declined by about 12 percent and funding for the Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children declined by 8 percent.
