Children’s advocates urge end to budget capsEducation Federal Budget Nutrition
Speaking of kids and nutrition, more than a dozen leading advocates for children and families are sending a letter to congressional leaders asking them to “craft a year-end fiscal package that increases investments in the nation’s children, by raising arbitrary congressional budget caps on ‘non-defense discretionary’ appropriations.” Coordinated by First Focus, a bipartisan group, the letter says that largely due to budget caps, K-12 education funding has dropped at five times the rate of broader government cuts. WIC funding was also hit by the caps, the group notes.
“Yes, the federal government has budget problems, but denying kids the help they need to grow and thrive is the wrong way to solve them,” said First Focus President Bruce Lesley. The letter, signed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, MomsRising and several other groups, is here: http://bit.ly/1NBP4ja…
