Kids’ Share 2015: Federal Spending Trends on Children
Expired event. For reference only.
9:00 am - 10:00 am
In cooperation with Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Kids’ Share 2015: Federal Spending Trends on Children, examines federal spending and tax investments in children and families. Kids’ Share 2015 is the ninth annual report from the Urban Institute, funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and First Focus.
Federal spending on children has remained fairly flat over the past three years. Between 2012 and 2014, spending fell for children’s education, nutrition, social services, and early education and care, and increased for children’s health. In the future, overall federal spending is projected to increase substantially, but virtually none of the additional funds will be directed toward children. Thus, the share of the economic pie and of the federal budget devoted to children is scheduled to decline.
This briefing examines these trends and what they could mean for our children’s future. Speakers include:
The Honorable Nita Lowey, U.S. Representative for New York’s 17th District
