Advocates for children’s health pleaded with President Barack Obama and Congressional Leaders Thursday to reauthorize CHIP, which would expire in 2016. The letter, spearheaded by First Focus and signed by dozens of supportive organizations, including Enroll America, Families USA and the March of Dimes, asks for rapid action so states and families can begin making plans. “As states are adjusting to a variety of health system changes, it is essential that Congress secure CHIP’s future this year so that states can operate their programs without interruption,” the groups wrote. “Congress must act soon if children are to be protected. Inaction by Congress would mean a total reversal of fortune for the millions of children who use CHIP.”
