DRIVING THE DAY: HOUSE EDUCATION SPENDING BILL DROPS THIS MORNING — The House would slash even deeper than sequestration’s across-the-board cuts for the 2014 fiscal year. Republicans would spend $43 billion less than the Senate Democrats. Don’t expect to see the House spend any money on new Obama administration ideas like a Race to the Top for higher education or brain mapping research, both included in the Senate’s appropriations. But education advocates say the gap between the two plans means almost everything is liable for cuts.
