In response to the news that the Biden Administration has ceased negotiations to financially compensate families separated at the border, First Focus on Children President Bruce Lesley issued the following statement:
“President Biden rightfully called the Trump Administration’s family separation policy a moral stain on our nation — one that is unfortunately not new. The Department of Justice’s end to settlement discussions betrays the thousands of children and families still dealing with the trauma of separation every day. Our country’s will to do right by children must be greater than any fear of opposition. We call on the Biden Administration to honor its campaign promises to migrant children and return to the negotiating table to redress the intentional cruelty inflicted on children by the previous administration.”
