Washington – Today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on King v. Burwell protects affordable health coverage for consumers, families, and children, according to an analysis released by bipartisan children’s advocacy organization First Focus. The ruling affects children in 34 states who rely on subsidies for affordable health coverage in the Federally Facilitated Marketplace.
Reacting to today’s ruling, First Focus President Bruce Lesley made the following statement:
“The Affordable Care Act was a big win for kids, and today’s ruling means that many children in 34 states get to keep their health coverage. Congress can now return to the important work of improving the health coverage for our children instead of fighting for it.
“There are still millions of children in America without health insurance, but thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, we are close to reaching the finish line for quality care for all kids.
“We urge policymakers to act quickly to fix the family glitch and improve access and quality in the Affordable Care Act so it can continue making progress covering uninsured kids, protecting millions of kids and parents from abusive insurance practices, and delivering care from head to toe.”
