WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, First Focus, a bipartisan children’s advocacy organization, applauded the appointment of Cindy Mann, J.D. as Director of the Center for Medicaid and State Operations (CMSO) at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Mann has been serving as a research professor at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute in addition to the executive director of the Center for Children and Families at the Institute.

First Focus President Bruce Lesley issued the following statement:

“Cindy Mann has devoted her career to improving health care for children and families. She is a champion for ensuring children’s developmental health care needs are met through the Children’s Health Insurance Program and Medicaid. Ms. Mann brings a wealth of information, experience, and knowledge to CMSO through her remarkable work in the public and independent sectors.

“As CMSO Director, Ms. Mann will oversee both Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), including the implementation of the newly enacted CHIP law. We are pleased to have her strongly advocating for the needs of America’s children as we work to reform our health care system.

“Indeed, the children’s advocacy community is heartened to know that we will have a strong champion for children’s health issues in Cindy Mann.”
