Senior Director, Early Childhood and Education Policy
Lily Klam is the Senior Director of Early Childhood and Education Policy at First Focus. Her work focuses on enhancing educational opportunity for underserved student groups and supporting public schools. Lily is the author of “The Alliance for Student Liberty,” a biweekly newsletter that discusses the recent attacks on public education and ways to fight back.
Prior to joining First Focus, Lily worked with community schools both at the Maryland State Department of Education and at the Institute for Educational Leadership. At the Institute for Educational Leadership, she created policy recommendations for expanding the community school model across the country. At the Maryland State Department of Education, she provided technical assistance to community schools across the state of Maryland. In these positions, she became passionate about using the whole-child approach to ensure students are supported mentally and physically within a school environment.
Lily earned both her Master of Public Policy and undergraduate degree in Government and Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park. Lily resides in Capitol Hill and enjoys reading, traveling, and dog-watching in Lincoln Park.
