Voting marathon likely to clear the way for large-scale cuts to Medicaid, CHIP

As the Senate begins a “vote-a-rama” today, First Focus on Children President Bruce Lesley released the following statement:

“We’re pleased that during tonight’s voting marathon many conscientious lawmakers plan to offer amendments aimed at protecting kids. Despite those well-intentioned efforts, the Senate likely will clear a path for massive cuts to Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, food stamps and other programs that ensure the health and well-being of the nation’s children. And for what? To hand bigger, more expansive tax cuts to the wealthiest people in America. This tradeoff is not only unfair, it is morally bankrupt.”
