In response to the Senate’s passage of a $3.5 trillion budget plan, First Focus on Children President Bruce Lesley issued the following statement:

“We are pleased that the Senate’s $3.5 trillion budget outline would support children and the people who care for them with funding and policy priorities for child care, children’s health and well-being, paid family leave, public and early childhood education, a path to citizenship for immigrant children and families, and other items that prioritize our nation’s 74 million children. We agree with the Biden Administration that America needs groundbreaking investments in these areas and legislation to prevent the government from raising taxes on American families and doubling the child poverty rate, which is a long-term crisis in need of a long-term solution. This blueprint is a promising first step toward these goals. We’ll watch carefully as Congress finalizes the proposal’s elements.”
