Child care funds will shore up providers

Bruce Lesley, president of First Focus on Children, made the following statement in response to President Biden’s release today of $39 billion to confront the child care crisis exacerbated by the pandemic:

“We’re pleased to see the Administration working hard to get money to our child care providers and families quickly. The $39 billion released today will help shore up the hundreds of thousands of providers who were already struggling before the pandemic increased their operating expenses and caused painful closures and layoffs, and it will go a long way to helping re-hire staff, who are mostly women and disproportionately women of color. We look forward to even more progress on our vital child care infrastructure in the president’s next relief package.”
