The following is a response from Bruce Lesley, President, First Focus on Children, to recent events:
“The pain of the last few days reminds us that the systemic racism that allowed George Floyd and others to be killed exerts a major impact on our children. Black, brown, and Native American children already suffer disproportionate harm in this country, and experiencing or witnessing these events and their aftermath reinforces the trauma that too often is part of their childhood. At First Focus on Children, we remain committed to making all children a priority in our country and we stand with those fighting injustices and systems that harm them.”
