First Focus on Children submitted the following comment today urging the Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee (CHPAC) to ensure the Environmental Protection Agency’s continued role as the premiere federal leader protecting children’s environmental health.
Excerpt from the comment:
We recommend prioritizing children’s environmental health as part of the Make America Healthy Again strategy. This would include taking actions to support environmental health in schools, such as supporting the successful Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools program, targeting efforts to improve environmental health in schools and child care facilities.
We recommend that top priorities for the Administrator are supporting the EPA’s critical work and funding to achieve healthy schools and increasing recognition of the incredible expertise the agency’s team brings to that work. In addition, EPA’s Office of Children’s Health must be empowered to continue its vital role of incorporating children’s health considerations into all EPA regulations, guidance, and policy. Strong support and leadership from the Administrator for EPA’s Office of Children’s Health and healthy schools work presents an immediate and achievable opportunity to reduce harmful exposures, prevent chronic illness, and support healthier learning and development for all children.
