This guide was developed by the American Federation of Teachers, First Focus, the National Immigration Law Center and United We Dream and is aimed at educators, school support staff and service providers.

The guide was developed in response to immigration raids targeting recently arrived Central American mothers and children as well as unaccompanied youth who recently turned 18.

These immigration enforcement operations, which are expected to continue, directly impact the attendance rates and academic performance of immigrant students as well as U.S. citizen children in mixed-status families. Therefore, is critical that school personnel and service providers are equipped with the tools and resources available to help protect and prepare youth and families at risk of being impacted by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid.
