Many have been waiting for November 8th with bated breath – who will be our next president? What will it mean for our nation’s future? screen-shot-2016-11-08-at-10-04-52-am

On November 9th, however, the real work begins. As a country, we will need to figure out how to work alongside our neighbors and reach across the aisle following one of the most tumultuous elections in our history. Most importantly, our new leadership will be tested on its true priorities: whether or not it will create a future for kids to thrive.

Consider the state of America’s children:

In the wake of the election, we need a president who prioritizes children–someone who can champion programs and models that give kids the best start in life. Take the evidence-based home visiting programs for example, which have been shown to reduce child abuse and neglect. Consider the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which has been wildly successful in lowering the uninsurance rate for kids, is a fiscally responsible program, and gives kids a pediatric-appropriate network of providers.

Advocates know what works for kids to succeed. The question is: will our new president follow suit?
