June is here and that means….Children’s Week.
Sixty organizations and multiple members of Congress have signed on to help First Focus on Children celebrate Children’s Week 2024, an annual line up of events, briefings and legislative actions aimed at urging Congress to better protect the health, safety, and well-being of America’s children.
Children’s Week 2024 runs from June 9 through June 15 and will feature federal and state lawmakers, members of the Administration, advocates, and academics on child hunger, homelessness, poverty, gun violence and other challenges facing our nation’s children. The policy experts at our partner organization, First Focus Campaign for Children, have also introduced the Children’s Opportunity Agenda 2024, a blueprint for addressing the most pressing challenges facing our children. The Children’s Opportunity Agenda 2024 urges lawmakers to:
- Invest in children
- Improve the tax code for children and families
- Cut child poverty
- Improve children’s health and safety, including mental health
- Expand affordable, accessible early learning and child care
- Provide equitable education funding
- Enact other priorities that impact the well-being of our children
Event highlights from Children’s Week 2024 include:
- A virtual briefing by hazardous waste experts and children’s advocates to examine how lead poisoning affects children in the U.S. and abroad and how to stop it (Wed., 6/12, 1:30pmET)
