The Kid Angle: With summer comes hunger

Summer is here. Think lawn sprinklers, watermelon, games of hide-and-seek that can last until the sun goes down at 9pm (do kids even play that anymore?). There’s also: hunger.

One-in-10 kids in this country are without enough to eat, a situation that gets worse in the summer for kids who rely on school meals. Congress is slated to consider legislation over the next few weeks that will decide the nutritional future of these and other hungry children.

In a Capitol Hill briefing tomorrow, First Focus on Children brings together leading voices on child nutrition to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill, Appropriations funding for nutrition programs, and the new SUN Bucks initiative. Please join us.
