2014 did not see any improvement for children living in poverty – 21 percent, or 15.5 million children were living in poverty in 2014. Children continue to disproportionately experience poverty, for while they make up 23 percent of the total population, they comprise 33 percent of all people living in poverty. While child poverty trends vary around the country, no state had a child poverty rate below 12 percent in 2014.
